textual content – Ought to CR r U+000D for EOL be preserved?

I simply found that if I open a file in TextEdit, it’s rendered appropriately whether or not the road endings are CR or LF or CRLF.  And for lyrics embedded with ID3 in an MP3 file, Music.app is equally versatile. But when I view the tags with eyeD3, CR does what many Unix apps will do—overwrite every line with the subsequent one.

The disconcerting factor is that if the file makes use of U+000A, copying lyrics from TextEdit and pasting into Music’s data window adjustments all the road endings to U+000D.

MacOS / OS X has been Unix for greater than a decade.  What (if any) causes may there be for preserving r?  Is the silent conversion good or unhealthy, and why?
